How to use a Fire Extinguisher!

A portable fire extinguisher can save lives and property by putting out a small fire or containing it until the fire department arrives; but portable extinguishers have limitations. Because fire grows and spreads so rapidly, the #1 priority for residents is to get out safely. Here is what you need to know about choosing and using fire extinguishers!
It is highly recommended that every home have at least one fire extinguisher. Preferably one fire extinguisher on each floor of a dwelling but particularly in high fire hazard areas like the kitchen. It is equally important to know how to use your fire extinguisher in case of a fire.
The acronym PASS is often used to help one remember how to use a fire extinguisher.
Pull the pin. While holding the nozzle away from you, and release the locking mechanism.
Aim low, pointing the nozzle at the base of the fire.
Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly down.
Sweep the nozzle from side to side to extinguish the fire.
